I chose Proverbs 3: 1-4. "My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in you heart. If you do this , you will live many years and your life will be satisfying." When I read this, I think about how much I desire for my children to be Godly men when they grow up. I sometimes worry whether or not I'm depositing enough into their lives to make a difference in this world. Then, I think about how much more God must feel this towards me. He's giving me a promise that I will live many years and have a satisfying life if I remeber what He's taught me, and store his commands in my heart (the place I so easily store offense, pain, rejection). He wants me to store loyalty and kindness deep in my heart and even to remember it so often that I would tie it around my neck like a necklace. This part also stuck out to me because I have a favorite necklace that my husband bought me for Christmas one year, it is a very good memory. Whenever I wear it, which is often, I think of him and this memory. God wants me to remember to be loyal and kind that often.

I know this is a little late with my response but I really wanted to see what the Lord wanted me to say on this blog. After church tonight and hanging out with a good buddy of mine, I've decided to come on out of my shell and share my big ole heart with ya. Sorry if I make a long story longer but oh well, if you are reading this I'm sure you have time to read it all. LOL.

The Proverb that I chose was Proverbs 27. This proverb had a lot of golden nuggets in the gold mine and let me tell you, it's no fool’s gold. Anyway, the very first verse (1) "DO NOT boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth." really stood out. Often times personally I really worry about tomorrow when I should be focused on what God is doing today.

A list of others are:
(2) Let another praise you, and not our own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips.
(4) Anger is cruel and fury overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?
(5) Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
(6) The kisses of an enemy may be profuse but faithful are the wounds of a friend
(10) Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you --- better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
(17) As iron sharpen iron, so one man sharpens another

I guess I could go on and on with these verses but I'll let you read them for yourself. But throughout these verses the Lord is really telling me personally to trust in Him and also trust others that He's placed in my life. He places people in our lives to keep us in line (by open rebuke) and also to (in a good way) hit us where it hurts. As Pastor Dan has been heavily preaching for us to "Do Life Together" sometimes it will take someone to give us a good kick to do what God calls us to do.

All in all before going any further (I know I've said this a lot in different ways). God want us to be in each other’s lives to push each other closer to a Godly life closer to Him.

The element with the cross at the end of last weeks service was very powerful. If anyone missed service, you can watch the service on the 63rd and park site, www.63rdandpark.com in the videos section, the message was called my role in the family. The nailing the cards to the cross happens at the end. What a powerful moment. Thousands of souls represented on the cross.

Proverbs 24:26 has recently become my favorite Proverbs. " An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips." So, naturally I picked chapter 24 to dwell and meditate on.

Regarding verse 26, it is an easy thing to lie. Most of the time no one ever knows. Except the omniscient One. Sin is sin. Whether you lie, cheat, steal, or murder. So, everytime I find myself telling a "white lie" to make myself look better or embellish a story to make it funnier/more entertaining, or when spilling the latest news about whomever to whats-her-face, this verse finds its way to my thoughts. It has been floating around in my head so much these past few weeks, I feel like its stamped to my forehead. :)

This week the Lord has really been working on my heart to work on my mouth. Matthew 15:11- "Its not what goes into your mouth that defiles you; you are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth." (Amen!)

Putting the names of the unsaved we are praying for on the cross this week has only intensified what I've been learning. There are many whom I pray for to be saved but other than witnessing and talking about Jesus, how else can I get them to understand that there is an amazing, life-changing, FREE gift that they're missing out on?! Sure, I can talk the talk ABOUT Jesus, but can I talk the talk when speaking about other things? Do I come across as a God-fearing woman when I talk about work, school, or someone close to me? I want to walk the walk not only through my actions but through my words.

I chose Chapter 10, and it's a doozey. I love the directness of Solomon!

"Make hay while the sun shines – that's smart.
Go fishing during the harvest – that's stupid." (vs 5)

Haha! I've noticed that in all these verses, wisdom comes from living an upright life. I love the word pictures The Message version paints.

"Honesty lives confident and Carefree, but Shifty is sure to be exposed." (vs 9)

"Hatred starts fights, but love pulls a quilt over the bickering" (vs 12)

"The Fear of God expands your life, a wicked life is a puny life." (vs 27)

BUt my absolute favorite verse in this chapter is verse 25:
"When the storm is over, there's nothing left of the wicked; good people, firm on their foundation, aren't even FAZED."

I've really been encouraged to snap out of living for myself everyday. To shape up, get things squared away that I've been putting off. I want to live a "Confident and Carefree" life...and not let past laziness effect my future.

"God is solid backing to a well-lived life,
be He calls into question a shabby performance." (vs 29)

I decided to pick up where I last left off in Proverbs...Chapter 16 has many little nuggets of wisdom like "Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life"(vs 31) or "A wise man's heart guides his mouth and his lips promote instruction"(vs23) and my personal favorite "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit befor a fall"(vs 18).
Verse 16 touches on what we discussed at our last meeting, "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver". But the verses that spoke to me most were vs 2 " a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the Lord", vs 4 "The Lord works out everthing for his own ends-", vs 20 " whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord" and vs 9 "in his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps". Like Regina said, the Proverbs couldn't be more clear or direct but sometimes that's what causes us to trip up. We always expect the answer to be complex or mysterious but God spells everything out for us in his word...
I love the way the message bible translates vs 9 "We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it". We all have these ideas about how our life should go or where we want to be by the time we are 25 or 30 but ultimately it is up to God. Like vs 20 says in the message bible "It pays to take life seriously; things work out when you trust in God."

Ryan, love the God-whisper, being in tune to those can set the course of your life following God's will.
Regina, I totally agree, direct instruction is always good, especially since I don't always get the subtle hints...just ask Amanda, she will tell you! haha.

Proverbs 1:20-33 caught my eye right off the bat since we were reading about wisdom in "The Organic God" last week. As I read, it is very interesting to me that the verse starts out by stating that wisdom shouts in the streets. At first thought, to me, wisdom and yelling don't really go together =) But God must've known that shouting would be required at some point to get his point across. I know there have definitely been times in my life when its taken "shouting" on God's part to get my attention.

I like the fact that these verses are very direct and to the point. I can't really misinterpret "Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise". Gotta love direct instructions from God!

I have never spent the necessary time in Proverbs to have any idea what chapter I wanted to focus on this week. So, I asked God for some direction, which didn't happen immediately, so I tried opening to random chapters but didn't get any confirmation from what I was reading, until out of no where, "read chapter 3", came to mind. Chalk it up as a God whisper, pretty cool! As soon as I stared reading chapter 3 I had confirmation in verses 5-12. Here, God told me I shouldn't assume I know it all. For me this is big, I feel the most uncomfortable about God when I am in a conversation, or small group, and a subject I'm not familiar with or don't know anything about comes up. At that moment, my self image is like a full balloon meeting a sharp needle. I get frustrated with myself and my attitude goes from "this is great" to "get me out of here". In verses 5-12, God so graciously told me I need to stop trying to figure everything out on my own. This is great news! Now, when charting unfamiliar territory, I will keep a good attitude, and my self image can stay inflated, because I don't have to know it all, and God is there to help me figure it out.

Ryan Weldon
