A couple thoughts for the start of the week:
1. Glenn Beck is actin’ a fool (Pat Robertson kind of crazy comments)
2. Jim Wallis of Sojourners is talking back
- Here is the Beck soundbite on social justice and the church
- Here is the Wallis article in the Huffington Post calling out Beck’s insanity
- Here is the invitation to an open dialogue issued by Wallis
- Here is the link to come out to Beck as a lover of justice
Here are my very candid thoughts on this issue: Social justice isn’t a part of Christianity, social justice defines Christianity. In fact, Jesus told his disciples that it would be there love for each other that would set them apart as his disciples.
Taking care of the widow and the orphan is at the heart of the mission of the church. Tending to “the least of these” is foundational to our faith.
I even think if Jesus were to come hang out in our culture, people like Beck would call him a socialist, and warn us of the danger inherrent in his message. He may even encourage us to run away from him as fast as possible.
Jesus was radical. And his message still is.
